Abstract

One of the important jurisprudential issues that has a widespread impact is the issue of alimony and the cost of living and its limits. After marriage and the beginning of a common life, it is obligatory for a man to take care of his wife's living expenses, and if he does not have the money, he is obliged to provide for her by working. The discussion of alimony for a wife and the obligation to pay it has long been one of the main issues of common life in Shiite jurisprudence; but the question is, from the perspective of Shiite jurisprudence, especially jurists such as Imam Khomeini (RA), for what reason or reasons has the payment of alimony become obligatory? What are its conditions and limits? The following article, using a descriptive-analytical method, seeks to analyze the opinions of jurists based on Tahrir al-Wasilah as one of the important contemporary jurisprudential sources. The findings show that the role of a woman's obedience and submission to her husband will be a key point in the discussions raised in order to clarify the duties of a husband and wife with the focus on alimony.
